A Detention Officer Put Her Dream on Hold for Her Dad, Then Sang My Way in Spanish on AGT

Olivia Calderon greeted the America’s Got Talent judges with a warm “Hola”. She is 47 years old and works as a detention officer, a job she has done in the corrections field for 21 years, the last 12 of them in Tempe 👮‍♀️.

Her mother came with her to the audition, and it was clear how much this moment meant to both of them.

Olivia chose a song everybody knows, Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”, but she sang it in Spanish as “A Mi Manera” 🎶. Her voice was big and dramatic, and she poured everything into every line.

Not every judge was sold. One said it was not her cup of tea, but still wished her a ton of luck.

Simon wanted to know why she never chased a singing career when she was younger. Olivia explained that she studied and earned a degree in vocal performance and another in criminal justice, but put her dream on hold to help her mom take care of her dad.

Simon said he loved the drama she brings when she performs, and told her he would love to be the first person to say yes. After all those years of putting her family first, Olivia finally got her moment in the spotlight ❤️.
