Jazzlyn Little was the last contestant of the day, and she was more nervous than anyone. The 16-year-old from Cape Coral, Florida, said it felt like a cage of butterflies had been opened in her stomach 🦋.
She had been taking singing seriously for about four years. For her, singing was an escape from peer pressure and from being judged, a place where she could be anyone she wanted.
In front of the judges, she could barely relax. Simon asked if she had posted anything online, and she said one video, with about 500 views. When he asked why so few, she said people just did not like watching her videos. Simon told her she was not selling herself well and that they had to change that.
Then she sang “I’m Goin’ Down” by Mary J. Blige, and the shy girl disappeared 🎶. Her voice was deep, soulful and powerful, and the judges jumped up cheering.
One judge told her she had a superstar name and a superstar voice. Nicole said she started to cry. Simon said he would love to see her once she has confidence, and that he believed she could be a world star.
With four yeses, Jazzlyn was going to boot camp, and one judge promised she would have a lot more than 500 views on YouTube now. Outside, she said that for the first time in her life she truly felt accepted ❤️.
