The hunter pulled a wolf from the ice, but he had no idea how much the wolf would be willing to pay for his generosity.
Silence fell across the winter woodland. There seemed to be nothing that could disturb the calm, and the river was frozen. However, the hunter saw a shadowy figure on the ice. When he got closer, he noticed that a wolf was stuck in the icy water. It was so tired that it tried to crawl out by holding on to the edge of the ice with its paws, but its strength was waning.
The hunter immediately rushed to assist without hesitation. He was aware of how lethal a predator might be, particularly when they were terrified and in pain. However, something in the wolf’s eyes, in the way it struggled for survival, would not allow him to leave. He hauled the wolf out of the freezing water, wrapped it up, and took it home with considerable effort.
He had no idea how much this act of kindness would cost him.He overlooked the fact that wolves are predators and can do unexpected things.
He gave the wolf the name Grey. The animal gradually recovered under his and his son’s care, although it never fully tamed. His eyes were still burning from the wild, yet he never left the house.
The village rapidly became aware of the story.People viewed the wolf as a menace and didn’t trust it.The hunter was aware that keeping a wild animal was risky, but it felt much worse to let him go into the forest, where harsh laws were in effect.
He was unaware that the protected animal would eventually repay him and save his life.
The hunter entered the woodland one winter evening in order to inspect abandoned traps. He didn’t come back for dinner. Not by dusk. His son became concerned, but he reasoned that perhaps he had slept outside, as he occasionally did.
Only the following morning did the son realize something was amiss when the wolf started howling at the door, a loud, eerie sound.
The hunter lay in the snow, his leg trapped in a trap, deep within the woodland. He screamed for assistance, but nobody came.Hope dwindled with every hour that went by.
Then there was a crack.A noise. There was a grey shade.
Instead of running to him, Grey stopped and observed from a distance. Then he vanished without a trace.
The hunter had become disoriented. He was delirious when he heard voices. His son!And the wolf led the guys from the village there.
The hunter said, “He… he brought you here?..
Grey was one of them.He glanced at the hunter quietly. Then he turned and disappeared into the trees, seemingly having finished his duty.
He was never seen again. However, the hunter understood that the loan had been settled.
