Many of us recall our time as scouts when we reflect on our early years. The Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts existed when we were younger, but things are changing now.
The Boy Scouts of America, which has existed for more than a century, has announced that it is changing its name. Their new name, Scouting America, is a significant departure from their original plans.
The organization just started accepting LGBT youths as well as females and boys. In addition, they are facing accusations of sexual abuse, declining membership, and financial difficulties. They believed the adjustment was required as a result.
“In the next 100 years, we want any youth in America to feel very, very welcome to come into our programs,” declared Roger Krone, president and CEO of The Boy Scouts.
They anticipate that the organization’s rebranding will spur further expansion. In addition, they care about maintaining their basic principles, recruiting new members, and the next generation of scouts.
If everything goes according to plan, the organization will transition to Scouting America on February 8, 2025, the organization’s 115th birthday.
In 2013, the Boy Scouts started accepting gay youngsters into the organization. More recently, girls have been allowed to join the Scouts. More than 6,000 girls have become Eagle Scouts since then.
The organization’s name change has drawn criticism from a large number of people. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas is one of them.
They still believe that it is vital in these times, notwithstanding the critics.
