It was believed that Vince Gill would last when he originally made his musical debut in 1979 as a member of the country rock outfit Pure Prairie League.
Every time he lets go of his commanding vocal, the audiences roar with joy; his performances are wholly original.
Gill continues to gain fans around the nation despite having published more than 20 albums. The audience appears to enjoy the fact that this gifted musician—who is also a devout Christian—has started incorporating more gospel music into his performances.
Knowing he would give a fantastic performance, the crowd was thrilled to watch him sing on the Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville, Tennessee.
But the managers forbade him from singing any mention of Jesus in his songs.
Everyone was on their feet when Gill followed his instincts and did something absolutely out of the usual, rather than obeying orders and mounting the stage.
The atmosphere was quickly filled by the stirring and poignant hymn “Why Me Lord” and its lyrics. Kris Kristofferson originally sang and recorded the song in 1972, but Gill’s vocal performance made a big difference.
Standing ovations were given to him, and the performance video went viral right away.
We all appreciate Gill for the amazing music he has given us over the years and we praise him for sticking to his convictions.
