Following the death of Brandon Blackstock, her ex-husband and the father of her two children, Kelly Clarkson has been going through a difficult period.

America’s favorite singer, Kelly Clarkson, does it all on her immensely popular show, The Kelly Clarkson Show: she sings, conducts interviews with guests, and plays fun games. Now, during a “Q&A” session with fans, the singer went very personal.
After getting married in 2013, Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock separated in 2022. Together, they have two children from their marriage: a daughter named River and a son named Remington.
After valiantly battling cancer for more than three years, Blackstock tragically lost away on August 7, 2025. When he passed away, he was just 48 years old.
A fan wrote in during the Q&A section to ask Kelly Clarkson what she did each day to make herself happy. “What is the one thing you do every day that brings you joy?” was the query.
“Snuggle,” she said in reply. My children are eleven and nine years old. They are still small enough to enjoy cuddles and snuggles, yet they can wipe their own behinds at this unique, entertaining period.
“There’s been a lot for our family recently, so I have allowed my kids to sleep with me quite a bit,” she stated candidly after giving her first reaction. It’s just me, my two dogs, and my two children. There is a lot.
“The conversations you have during that time are pretty cute,” she continued, adding that it was a particular moment she spent with her kids. I think that time of day is my favorite.
Many people were devastated by Blackstock’s passing. “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” read the statement announcing his passing. For for three years, Brandon valiantly fought cancer. He died quietly, surrounded by his loved ones.
“We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time,” the statement continued.
Blackstock had been a “loving partner” prior to his passing, according to his obituary.
Blackstock and Melissa Ashworth got divorced in 2012 after being married in 1999. Following that, in 2013, he wed Kelly Clarkson.
Clarkson had previously discussed her divorce and how she was coping with it at the Angie Martinez IRL.
“I literally ask my kids, ‘Are you happy?’ every night as we cuddle up in bed. “And what could make you happier if you’re not?” she asked in the 2023 interview.
“Especially the past two years… it kills me [but] I want them to be honest so I don’t ever say, ‘Oh God, don’t tell me that,'” Clarkson continued, describing how she set aside her own sentiments to listen to them.
It would often be, however, “I’m just really sad.” I wish my parents lived in the same home. They are quite truthful about it. She continued, “I’m raising that kind of individual.”
