As most adults are aware, adulthood can appear very simple to an impressionable child.
There is a well-equipped house with amenities including a table for food and limitless internet access. And it’s not quite as easy as a child may think to understand how those things got there.
In an attempt to instill in her disobedient son the value of hard work and perseverance, a mother came up with a funny method to confront her 13-year-old for not being prepared for adult duties. Discover how one mother disciplined her son with a lesson from the “real world” by reading on!
With her rebellious 13-year-old son Aaron, who she claims “wants the perks of growing up without the responsibility that comes with it,” Heidi Johnson was experiencing problems in 2015.
Aaron disregarded his mother’s advice to finish his homework at the time because he was a YouTuber making a “teeny tiny bit of money.” The youthful dissident abruptly exited her chamber, proclaiming that “he was a free person” since he was “making money.”
In response to Aaron’s actions, the single mother sent him a stern love letter, which she posted on Facebook. Almost ten years later, the piece has gone viral once more.
In the “roommate contract,” Johnson says, “Since you seem to have forgotten you are only 13, and I’m the parent, and that you won’t be controlled, I guess you will need a lesson in independence.” “Since you told me that you are now successful, it will be simpler to repurchase everything I previously bought for you.”
“You will need to pay your share of the costs if you would like your lamps/lightbulbs or access to the internet,” she continues.
The letter stipulated that in addition to paying the rent and utilities, Aaron would also have to prepare his own food and do regular housecleaning.
Johnson ends by saying, “Love, Mom.”
Take-Back
The mother, who resides in Venice, Italy, claimed that her son ripped up the note and threw it on the ground before hurriedly leaving the apartment.
All the child needed was some time to reflect, and she needed time to reclaim some of the belongings from his room.
She continued, saying that after handing her the things he had taken from his room that she had missed, he asked what he could do to begin earning them back. “Once he had time to think about his wrongs, he asked what he could do to start re-earning privileges,” she claimed.
“My goal was always to assist him understand the costs of things, not so much to get him to pay me back. He realized immediately that he was not going to be able to afford food, rent, or utilities,” she adds.
Internet fans praised her inventive discipling as soon as they saw it in the post’s comments section.
A netizen comments, “Excellent work. The agreement will teach him a lesson that he will apply throughout his life, but it is not a terrible punishment.
Although I understand that you are not seeking applause or criticism, I must say that, as a fellow mother, I think you are incredible. You allowed your son to develop and learn,” adds another.
Another says, “Excellent job acting like a parent instead of a maid.”
“The real world”
Johnson publishes another message in response to some people who said she publicly chastised her kid, saying she is “not ashamed” of what she wrote.
She begins, “A teenager is going to push their limits.” “They are in that developmental stage where one foot is firmly planted in childhood and the other is beginning to cross into adulthood. When a superior orders this child to do a task, I cannot send him into college or the workforce with the mindset that “I’ll get to it when I get to it.” That’s how things actually are.
“Nothing comes free,” Johnson continues. At some point, someone has to give up something.
