When a young girl entered a police station to confess to a terrible crime, the officer was completely taken aback by what she said
A mother, a father, and their young daughter, who was only two years old, came at the station that day. The girl was quite depressed and had teary eyes. The parents were obviously unsure of what to do and were also nervous.
— Can we visit Uncle the policeman? The father asked the receptionist in a low voice.
I apologize, sir, but I’m not exactly sure why you’re here and who you’d like to see. The receptionist gave a startled response.
The man sighed uncomfortably and straightened up.
Our daughter has been sobbing for a few days, you see. We are unable to soothe her. She keeps repeating that she wants to confess to a crime by speaking with a police uncle. She can’t fully articulate what occurred, tears all the time, and hardly eats. I apologize, I know this is really awkward, but could one of the police perhaps give us a few minutes?
One of the sergeants unintentionally overheard this talk. He took a step forward and knelt before the young girl.
I’ve got two minutes. How am I able to assist?
With relief, the father said, “Thank you so much.” — This is the police uncle, darling. Say what you wanted to say to him.
The young child sniffled, studied the uniformed man closely, and inquired:
— Do you actually work for the police?
“Obviously,” he grinned, “see the uniform?
The girl gave a nod.
She stammered, “I… I committed a crime.”
The officer simply said, “Go on.” You may tell me anything; I’m a police officer.
After that, will you imprison me? Her voice trembled as she asked.
He said softly, “That depends on what you did.”
The girl lost all control, started crying, and almost instantly blurted out something that stunned everyone in her vicinity
I gave my brother a rather strong slap on the leg. He’s bruised now. And he will pass away. I didn’t intend to. Don’t put me in jail, please.
After a moment of shock, the officer couldn’t help but smile. He gave the sobbing girl a tender hug and whispered:
No, my dear. Your brother will be all right. Bruises do not cause death.
The girl’s eyes were filled with tears as she gazed up at him.
Really?
Really? But please, don’t do that again.
Indeed.
— Will you make a commitment?
I swear.
The station became quiet and peaceful for the first time in many days as the young child dried her tears and cuddled up to her mother.
