Mickey Callisto, a 28-year-old Sunderland native, entered the Britain’s Got Talent stage with a sincere and lofty aim. In addition to his personal dream of performing at Wembley Stadium, Mickey’s most urgent objective was heartwarming: if he won the prize money, he would immediately purchase a stairlift for his grandmother, who was in dire need of one. He quickly won over the judges and the audience with this blend of modesty and lofty ambition, laying the groundwork for his stirring performance.
Mickey decided to sing the poignant Queen classic, “Who Wants to Live Forever.” His voice immediately evoked comparisons to the great Freddie Mercury due to its remarkable range, power, and richness from the first note. His performance was incredibly poignant and heartbreaking, demonstrating both technical mastery and a strong emotional bond with the song. Both the judges and the crowd were in awe of the incredible performance.
The unadulterated skill left the panel stunned. Judge Bruno Tonioli, who had the privilege of working with Freddie Mercury, commended Mickey’s performance, saying that he had “such quality I could listen to you all night” and all the mannerisms “down to a tee.” Alesha Dixon simply described the entire performance as “sensational,” while Amanda Holden described his voice as “unbelievable.” Simon Cowell acknowledged Mickey’s star potential as well, stating that his talent and wonderful attitude would guarantee that he will be talked about and remembered. Mickey Callisto took his first step towards the Wembley stage after receiving a resounding and unanimous four “yeses.”
