Olivia Calderon greeted the America’s Got Talent judges in Spanish. She told them she is a detention officer from Tempe, Arizona, and that she has worked in corrections for 21 years. Her coworkers did not even know she was there. She was 47, and her mother had come along to support her.
She said she had always dreamed of being a professional singer. Then she sang Frank Sinatra’s My Way in Spanish, with a big, dramatic voice that got the audience cheering 🎶.
Not every judge was convinced. One said it was not their cup of tea, but still wished her luck.
Simon wanted to know what had stopped her from singing earlier. Olivia explained that she had studied vocal performance and criminal justice, but decided to put her dream on hold to help her mother take care of her dad. Simon said he loved the drama she brought to her performance and gave her the first yes, and she said she felt her dad shining on her ❤️.
