In a series of videos posted to TikTok, a woman from New Mexico disclosed that her parents were siblings, discussing the impact this had on her life and sharing the moment she finally accepted the reality.
Known on her channel as Cameron, she discussed her rather enlightening perspective on what it means to grow up with her parents being “blood siblings.”
From the outside looking in, it goes without saying that most people find the idea of such a familial dynamic unsettling. In addition to being prohibited in practically every state in the United States (New Jersey and Rhode Island do not have criminal prohibitions for sexual contact between consenting adults), inbreeding is linked to a number of health problems.
However, Cameron’s perspective on her incredibly uncommon circumstance is at least insightful. People in her little New Mexico town “knew about my parents being related,” she said in a video on her TikTok channel.
She also never made an effort to conceal it.
“I thought it was cool that my parents were siblings, so I would tell everyone in elementary school,” she said.
Eventually, a teacher felt compelled to intervene and provide some warning, the TikToker continued.
She claimed that her teacher didn’t bring her aside until the fifth grade, at which point she stated, “I don’t think you should be telling people this.”
Cameron says she didn’t realize the atmosphere she grew up in wasn’t even close to normal until she was older and had internet access.
When she realized how “wrong” it was that her parents were siblings, she acknowledged that her own perspective started to change. As a result, she began to view her parents’ relationship differently.

Cameron answered a commenter’s query on how she discovered her parents were related in a different video.
I frequently draw comparisons to adoptive parents. There was never much shyness about it. She stated, “I believe it’s just because it’s so normalized in my neighborhood.”
We’ve always known because I live in a tiny town. They were somewhat pleased with it.
The details of their individual upbringings are unclear, but Cameron claimed that her parents didn’t realize they were connected at first. They started dating after her father, after hunting, went by a diner where her mother worked.
She claimed that before they even realized they were connected, they began dating. “If that is somewhat helpful.”
The TikToker disclosed that her parents, who are still together, are not aware of her videos because they do not use social media.
“They fight constantly,” she remarked.
I no longer really communicate with them because, well, they’re nuts.
“There are hamsters all over the trailer park where they live.”
“It takes a few generations of inbreeding before it really starts to show physical and mental characteristics,” a TikTok commentator stated.
“Old royal families that only married within the family to keep the money are a good example; eventually, they would start exhibiting certain things.”
