For seven years, the biker traveled to the prison every Wednesday to see Marcus Webb, the guy who killed his daughter, Sarah, a 19-year-old veterinary student, and dumped her body in a ditch. 😱😱😱
Others described Marcus, her lab companion in chemistry, as “a nice guy.” However, she turned him down when he invited her out one night.
Marcus made the admission without hesitation. “She turned me down,” he said. “I wanted her to understand what helplessness feels like.” He received a life sentence in prison. Sarah’s father started going to see him once a week as soon as he got there.
His biker brothers believed he was insane. Sarah’s mom abandoned him. She yelled, “How can you face him?” He didn’t stop, though. Each week, he said, “You’ll find out in time,” and greeted Marcus with a small smile 😱😱
Everyone was startled when the purpose of his visits was later disclosed.
Sarah’s father had made the decision to go see the person who killed his daughter from the start. Despite the incomprehension of his friends, family, and other victims’ relatives, he traveled a great distance every week to have a face-to-face meeting with Marcus.
His biker mates believed he had gone crazy after Sarah’s mother abandoned him. However, he continued to see Marcus without ever explaining why. Marcus asked him the same question at each meeting: “Why are you here?”
Weekly visits lasted for seven years. Marcus made futile attempts to coerce him, tell lies, and ask for forgiveness at that period. He never received a response from the father. Marcus evolved into a model prisoner over time in the hopes that Sarah’s father would see significance in his metamorphosis. The man, however, was unaffected.
Seven years later, Sarah’s father finally disclosed the true purpose of his visits: “I wanted you to feel what Sarah felt in her last moments – the same powerlessness, the same confusion.”
In order for Marcus to live each day in doubt, never understanding why, exactly as Sarah had lived her last moments, he went on to say that he would continue to visit him once a week for the remainder of his life.
Forgiveness did not provide the father peace; rather, this kind of justice did. He keeps going to see Marcus week after week until one of them passes away, giving Marcus a tiny taste of the powerlessness he had inflicted on his daughter.
