I was so taken aback by my sister’s explanation for not letting my daughter go to the pool that I took my daughter and left.
We were going to have a family day at my sister’s house this weekend. Lily, my daughter, is an avid swimmer, and at the start of the week, she had already gotten her swimsuit ready and was looking forward to spending the weekend in the pool with her cousins.
When we arrived at my sister’s place, all the youngsters were already in the water. A few minutes after I urged Lily to change so she could join them, I noticed her beside the pool, looking distressed as she observed the other children enjoying themselves.
This intrigued me because Lily loves the water, and it was weird that she wasn’t swimming.
I approached her and asked, “What’s wrong, honey? Why don’t you enter the water?”
She said, her eyes filled with sadness, “Aunt Susan won’t let me swim. I can’t, but everyone else can.”
In order to comprehend what was happening, I took a deep breath and went to see my sister. I was shocked by her remark.
I instantly collected my daughter and we fled.
I went to see my sister and asked her what was going on.
Her response, “I wanted to avoid too much disturbance,” made me shudder. Lily splatters. My kids are accustomed to a certain level of quiet.
I was shocked by what I heard. “You mean that because my kid might interfere with the order, she is not welcome?”
“It’s my house, my rules,” she insisted. Nothing about it is personal.
I decided right away. “Lily, go get your belongings. We’re heading home.
“I won’t talk to you until you show some respect for others,” I wrote to my sister later.
She didn’t answer.
