In the midst of hilarity, a waitress is humiliated in front of all of Paris when she falls into the pool, but what the millionaire does next surprises everyone!
The summer sky was filled with the pulse of electronic music. The city’s elite gathered to celebrate Louise Delcourt’s birthday, the heiress to a huge real estate empire, on the terrace of a palatial hotel in Paris. Arrogance and pretense were mixed together in the form of fitted tuxedos, haute couture gowns, and clouds of pricey perfume.
Émilie Laurent, a 23-year-old who was serving champagne glasses, was almost invisible among them. She was dressed in faded sneakers, a white apron, and a black shirt. She was a temporary waitress who had just rushed here after finishing a double shift. In their tiny Saint-Denis apartment, this employment was her only source of income to cover her ailing mother’s prescription drugs.
A group of young women blocked Émilie’s path as she traversed the terrace, exhausted but determined. One of them, Louise Delcourt herself, was tall, blonde, and wearing a Dior outfit. She was looked down upon.
“Be careful, my love,” she exclaimed. If the clothing is more expensive than your annual wage, we wouldn’t want you to drop your tray on it.
There was laughter. Émilie’s face burned with embarrassment as she froze. Intoxicated by the attention, Louise chose to go further despite her stuttering apology.
– You ought to relax a little.
Then she suddenly shoved her. Émilie plunged into the bright pool, the tray flew, and glasses smashed on the floor. When the guests were doused with water, they screamed and then laughed.
Someone yelled, “Look at her!” while the scene was being filmed.
Émilie surfaced, soaked and struggling to breathe. Her hair was streaming across her face, and her apron was sticking to her skin. She climbed out of the water slowly, standing tall in spite of her embarrassment, while the throng erupted in laughter and flashes.
Suddenly, there was stillness.
There was a dude. He was a tall, dark-haired man in a midnight-blue suit who watched the spectacle with a piercing, icy gaze: Alexandre Rochefort, self-made billionaire and construction mogul.
Everyone thought he would chastise her.
However, Alexandre remained motionless, calmly put down his champagne flute, and took off his Swiss watch. putting it on the table.
And everyone was stunned by what the billionaire did next.
Alexandre moved silently in the direction of the pool.
Lost in the frigid water, his steely eyes trembled when they met Émilie’s. He extended his hand.
Come on. You have no place here.
His strong voice exuded kindness and power. After hesitating, Émilie placed her hand in his.
As one mends a shattered pride, he tenderly raised her. He removed his jacket and slung it over her shoulders without saying anything.
Then, his eyes as keen as a sword, he turned to face the audience.
Who carried out this action?
There was a thick quiet. The air was only broken by Louise’s apprehensive laugh.
Alexandre moved forward a step.
— Miss Delcourt, your father recently lost the partnership in my business. I don’t conduct business with those who don’t understand the value of dignity.
The audience echoed with whispers. Louise went white. In the meantime, Alexandre ushered Émilie inside and requested a hot tea and a towel.
You didn’t need to step in, she whispered.
Conversely. The worst form of complicity is silence.
Émilie perceived calm strength, devoid of condescension or sympathy, in his eyes. She felt seen for the first time in a long time.
The following day, social media went crazy:
“A humiliated waitress is defended by a billionaire.”
Despite Émilie’s desire to avoid the spotlight, he reappeared a week later with an open smile instead of a suit.
In La Défense, I need a helper. You were on my mind.
On that day, the young woman realized that her fall into the water had not been the end but rather the start of a new life, one that starts when someone decides to reach out while everyone else ignores them.
