I got a message from my spouse during his funeral: “It’s Nick.” I’m still here. Don’t put your faith in our kids. I was astonished by what I found out next.
It was a tremendous shock to me to lose my husband, Nick, after 42 years of marriage. On the day of the funeral, it was pouring rain, and the weather was horrible.
To say their last goodbyes, our kids and all of his pals were present. I was pondering and trying to make sense of everything as I stood in front of his tomb. My phone began to vibrate at that point. The second message made me jump, even though I didn’t want to see.
“It’s Nick, darling,” the message read. I’m still alive. Don’t put your faith in our kids.
I froze, absolutely stunned. Yes, that was my husband’s number, but how could that have happened? Why and by whom could someone have sent such a message at that precise moment? I thought it was some kind of twisted prank.
Our children were there, behind me, their eyes filled with sadness. Nevertheless, I chose to remain silent. I was so tired after the ceremony that I asked my kids to leave me alone when I got home.
I couldn’t help but check the number again after they departed. Nick still owned it. No one picked up when I called. I got another message a few seconds later that said, “Go to my friend Michael’s.” He will clarify everything.
Without thinking twice, I decided to go to his place. I almost halted as he opened the door. Behind him stood Nick, alive, very much alive, looking at me with a rather uncomfortable expression. It was unbelievable to me.
After inviting me inside, they filled me in on everything. Why Nick had pretended to be dead and why he had been hiding from our kids. I was taken aback to discover the reality.
Nick gave me a detailed explanation of the startling reality.
Over the past few months, our kids have apparently become aware of Nick’s precarious health and have begun plotting to have him go.
Naturally, their primary motivation was the inheritance.
They intended to kill him in order to obtain what they desired since they knew that if he vanished, they would receive his whole riches, including the family mansion.
Nick told me in a low, anguished voice, “I staged my death to buy time.”
“I was aware that they would finally execute their plan if I allowed them to act without my reaction. However, I didn’t want to lose either you or our kids. Thus, Michael and I devised a strategy to watch them and collect proof.
They were apprehended before they could take action because of that evidence and Michael’s assistance.
I am both relieved and heartbroken when I consider all that he did to keep our family safe.
However, one thing is for sure: nobody anticipated this story’s trajectory.
