Unaware of who he truly was or what would greet her in the morning, a generous woman let a single father and his child stay the night in her house 
A storm raged outside. Snow came in thick walls, the wind pounded the windows, and the roads were so covered that it was impossible to walk. The woman startled when someone knocked on the door since nobody comes here on a night like this.
She walked carefully to the door, opened it a little, and saw a man in his forties with damp sleeves and a flimsy jacket. He had a blanket-wrapped baby in his arms.
He whispered softly, “Pardon me, but my car is stuck on the road.” I am unable to travel to the city and am alone with the child. Can we remain here until the next day?
The woman hesitated, but her heart instantly melted when she saw the young one.
Come in, of course. It’s impossible to stay outside in these weather.
Warming some milk, she turned on the kettle and ignited the stove.
With caution, she inquired, “And where is the child’s mother?”
The man averted his gaze.
– She’s not present. He and I are alone.
He didn’t say anything, but his eyes were filled with weariness rather than hate.
The woman brought an old blanket and set them down by the stove.
Take a nap. The storm will subside tomorrow, allowing you to depart.
However, the wife found something horrifying in the morning 
She awoke in the morning to utter quiet. The stove had been out for a while, and the house was cold. There was a letter and an empty cup on the table:
“I appreciate your generosity and friendliness. I apologize for leaving without saying good-bye.
He didn’t want to wake her, judging by the woman’s smile.
However, she noticed both big, adult footprints and little ones, like those from children’s boots, in the snow when she peered out the window. After leading to the gate, the tracks vanished into the snowdrifts.
The TV was still on when she looked at it as she was about to clear the table. The news anchor’s voice was tight when she said:
“A man accused of abducting a newborn from the city hospital is still being sought by the police. Preliminary information suggests that he might be harmful. He took off in a dark-colored automobile with the child. If you have seen him, please call the police right away. His picture is displayed on the screen.
The woman stopped. He was the one in the picture.
Yesterday, the same man had sat in her kitchen, sipping tea and nodding as she poured milk for the infant.
Her heart began to race. She trembled.
The mother of the child is begging that her child be brought back alive. She is certain that the man left the city and proceeded north.
In a hurry, the woman rushed to the window. The trails, which led into the white abyss, were still discernible. It was only then that she felt the chill creep through her body as she stood motionless.
