The jailed policeman arrived to bid farewell to his partner, who had perished as a result of his actions. However, everyone was startled by what the partner’s mother did 
Following a terrible operation, the officer was taken into custody. Despite the fact that it was an accident, he was charged with his partner’s death. Testimonies, evidence, arguments, the trial continued for weeks. Finally, the sentence of seven years in prison was handed down.
The man’s voice trembled as the judge gave him the final word:
I’m not trying to find an excuse. I didn’t intend for this to occur. An accident occurred. I only beg that you allow me to bid him farewell. to beg for his pardon, as well as that of his family.
There was silence in the courtroom. The judge nodded after lowering his gaze.
Okay. However, you will be escorted.
Even the skies appeared to be in mourning on the day of the funeral. The wind blew black clouds across the cemetery, and the cold rain continued to pour.
Colleagues, friends, and family gathered. The deceased’s mother, wearing a black shawl, stood slightly apart. Her son’s name was spoken by her lips as her shoulders shook.
Everyone was in tears. The sound of rainfall on the coffin lid and soft weeping were the only sounds in the room.
Then police cars came up in the distance. Heads turned. A man in an orange prison outfit, chained and with his head lowered, emerged from one of them. He was escorted by four officers.
A whisper echoed through the audience:
That’s him.
— It was because of him…
Everyone stepped aside to allow the prisoner to pass as he approached. He paused at the casket, where the deceased’s insignia and cap were placed.
The prisoner knelt down in front of the coffin slowly and uttered, in tears,:
I’m sorry, brother. Please pardon me. This is not what I intended to occur. Every day, you are on my mind. If time could be turned back… I would replace you.
Weeping, he bowed his head. His tears mixed with the rain as it trickled down his cheeks. The family looked away and clinched their fists in fury as they watched him. To avoid making the burial a scene of outrage, however, nobody spoke.
The deceased’s mother then abruptly stepped forward. She walked gently over to the man and paused next to him. Unaware of what she was going to do, everyone froze. Then she did something that shocked everyone
The mother gazed at her son’s ex-partner for a considerable amount of time, seeing his lowered head and cuffed hands. Then she knelt next to him without saying anything. She took him in her arms and held him close in silence.
The prisoner found it hard to believe. He raised his head, turned to face her, and started crying uncontrollably.
I pardon you, she muttered. My son feels the same way. I’m aware that it was an accident. He would not want you to live a life of suffering since he loved you like a brother.
He pressed his face against her shoulder and nodded. People all around them were crying uncontrollably. To conceal their feelings, even the officers turned away.
He continued to glance over his shoulder as they eventually took him away. The mother watched him leave from the grave.
And he felt as though he could breathe for the first time in months.
