A one-year-old kid was crawling on a snowy nighttime road when the driver spotted him and fortunately stopped his truck a meter away. He was appalled by what he saw when he approached and brought the child into his arms
After a long shift, the truck driver was heading home. The road was deserted, save for the howling wind outside and a few headlights in the distance, and it was well past midnight. There were just a few more kilometers till the turnoff to his house, so he forced himself to stay awake even though his eyes were closing from tiredness.
Then he saw something odd in the shadows: a small white figure scuttling directly in the center of the road. The truck screeched to a stop, just a meter away from the tiny body, as the operator slammed on the brakes. His hands were shaking and his heart was racing.
Unable to believe what he saw, he leaped from the taxi. A one-year-old infant was crawling in a white jumpsuit on the snowy road in the icy night. The child had no gloves, no hat, and weak shoes. His lips were quivering, his breathing was hardly audible, and his cheeks were flushed from the cold.
As he lifted the infant, the driver muttered, “My God.”
Then he saw something odd about the infant and froze in dread
The baby’s chest and sleeves had dark red stains on them. He realized right away that the child wasn’t just lost.
With shaking fingers, the driver put the infant in the taxi, wrapped him in his jacket, and called the police. An ambulance and a patrol car showed up at the scene a few minutes later.
The hunt started. The officers immediately discovered a house with its front door open after following tracks in the snow to the closest settlement.
Inside, there was a terrible scene: a woman who was unconscious on the floor, surrounded by bloodstains and a broken bottle. A man who smelled of booze slept on the bed.
Later, it was discovered that the mother had been hit by the father during a fight, and the frightened infant had fled the house into the icy night.
The father was arrested, but the mother was spared.
And the man who saved a child’s life was the driver, who merely wanted to get home after work.
