When the groom cautiously lowered the bride’s veil to kiss her during the wedding ceremony, he was horrified by what he saw underneath 
Everyone held their breath throughout the ceremony. Soft, serious music played in the background, roses filled the air, and white ribbons adorned the venue. The groom was anxiously adjusting the buttons on his jacket as he stood in front of the altar. The moment he would finally glimpse his beloved’s face behind the bridal veil was something he had been looking forward to all his life.
The room fell silent as the priest finished speaking. The lawful wife was kissed by the groom as he cautiously lifted his hands to lift the lace veil. As though time had frozen, even the light appeared to soften.
However, he froze when he finally saw the bride’s face. The sight of what lay behind the curtain caused his lips to shake uncontrollably and his eyes to widen.
The woman he had been seeing for the past two years was not the one in front of him. The face behind the veil was someone else’s – similar, yet unfamiliar. For a while, he assumed it was a trick, but the woman in front of him softly whispered:
Please pardon me. I had to do it.
As it turned out, the genuine bride’s phone was smashed in an automobile accident while she was traveling to the chapel, leaving her unable to call anyone.
In order to prevent a scandal and the cancellation of the ceremony, her sister chose to step in. She hoped that it would be a straightforward symbolic ceremony, and then she would explain everything.
The groom was stunned and unsure of whether to laugh or cry. The visitors began to whisper, and the priest glanced around in perplexity, unsure what to do.
The door suddenly opened, revealing the real bride standing in the entryway with her arm bandaged and tears running down her cheeks.
I apologize. “I’m running late,” she said.
There were whispers and gasps throughout the congregation. After a prolonged period of silence, the groom approached her, took the ring off the stand-in’s finger, and grinned as he said:
Everything is now in its proper place.
