One day, after spending hours at his neighbor’s apartment, a man’s wife decided to follow him because she thought he was cheating on her: However, what she discovered there was a real surprise 
Her spouse had changed in the last month. He had gone from being gregarious and outspoken to quiet and reserved. Even though his wife was aware that he had recently been sacked from the hospital where he worked as a surgeon, he avoided talking and claimed to “stay late at work.”
Exhaustion, worry, she sought to excuse him. However, her intuition told her otherwise. The truth was being concealed by him. And the thought that he had a mistress tormented her more and more.
She chose to check one evening after her husband claimed to have “business to take care of” once more. After a few minutes of waiting, she put on her coat and followed him in silence. She had only one thought: everything will be obvious if I catch him cheating.
He didn’t get very far, though. He ascended to the fifth level of the flat as soon as the door shut behind him. “There it is!” the wife said, holding her breath. Our building is the exact location of his mistress. Watching him gently close the door behind him as he entered an apartment, she pressed against the wall.
She carried out this ritual again in the days that followed. Every time, he disappeared for hours into the same apartment after going upstairs. Her determination and jealousy became stronger the more she witnessed it.
She ultimately made the decision to petition for divorce after catching him in the act one evening. After waiting till he went upstairs once more, she followed him as stealthily as possible. Her heart beat so loudly that it seemed to be audible throughout the stairway.
At the door, she paused. There was stillness when she pressed her ear to it. No voices, no laughs, no footsteps. She became even more skeptical after that. The door wasn’t locked, so she cautiously pulled the doorknob.
She was stunned by what she saw inside. She had come to reveal adultery, but instead she was privy to a much more sinister and weighty secret.
The apartment resembled an operating room more than anything else. Bright lights, a metal table, antiseptic instruments arranged in perfect order, and white sheets in place of draperies.
An unconscious man with an IV attached was on the table, and there were bandages, scalpels, and surgical scissors nearby. Her heart began to rush as soon as she smelled the antiseptic.
– “What the devil is this?” She gripped the doorframe and whispered.
Her spouse turned slowly, took off his mask, and spoke icily:
– “You know everything now.”
As though he had made up his mind to reveal nothing more, he stepped in her direction.
— “I lost my job. However, I continue to see patients who are unable to pay for hospital operations. They are impoverished, and I I can’t ignore them completely. I do what I know here. As long as I can save their lives, it’s worth a few bucks. However, it would have been preferable for you to believe that I was unfaithful than to find out the reality.
The woman gazed at him in disbelief, unsure of which was worse: the revelation she had just learnt or the suspicion of treachery.
