Unaware that his pregnant wife was doing the housework because she wasn’t feeling well, my sister’s husband was playing video games. I was offended by this, and this is the lesson I taught him.
I visit my sister, who is nine months pregnant, whenever I have any free time to assist with housework. She is frequently by herself at home. I strive to be there for her during this difficult time.
She even requested me to stay at her house the last time since she was feeling quite ill. I found her husband playing video games while lounging on the couch when I got to their place. My sister, who wasn’t feeling well, was in the middle of making dinner and washing the dishes.
Admittedly, I was taken aback. Particularly throughout the final months of the pregnancy, I believed he was assisting, although this was obviously not the case. Even though my sister never gripes about him, I found what I witnessed to be too much. I couldn’t keep quiet.
Even though she never complains, I informed him that he should be helping her instead of just sitting there and playing, especially at this vulnerable time. After initially ignoring me, he said, “It’s not my problem; it’s women’s work.”
I was enraged by his reaction and lack of concern. I made the decision to discipline him, and this is what I did.
I offered him a challenge: if he could work on his wife’s chores for the entire day, I would look after my sister, and he could unwind and play video games.
There was a great deal of confidence, even arrogance, in his acceptance.
After that, I got him a big watermelon, and we worked together to make him look pregnant.
It was a catastrophe when he began to handle the housework.
He found it difficult to vacuum, cook, do the dishes, and even bend over.
He was already worn out, sweating profusely, and totally disheartened by lunchtime.
He realized for the first time the amount of work involved and apologized when he ultimately gave up.
He has evolved since then and goes above and above to support my sister.
