My kid abruptly approached me during my sister’s wedding and whispered, “There’s something under the table.” I was startled when I glanced down there
It was the eagerly anticipated wedding of my younger sister. My spouse and I have a five-year-old boy, and we have been married for almost a decade.
Sitting at the joyful table, we loved the mood, laughed, and raised our glasses to the newlyweds. Everything appeared to be ideal.
My son, however, started acting weird all of a sudden. He squirmed in his seat, kept peeping beneath the table, and refused to go play with the other kids.
I initially assumed he was simply exhausted. However, he approached me, took hold of my hand, and uttered:
Let’s head home, Mom.
— What’s the matter, dear? Are you worn out? You like this place, don’t you?
— No However, did you see what’s beneath the table?..
I felt cold. I nearly yelled in terror as I stooped to lift the long tablecloth
One of the guests, who I initially hardly recognized, was sleeping there, curled up. Clearly intoxicated, he unintentionally extended his hands and touched my son’s legs as he fell asleep.
I almost let out a yell. My temples reverberated with the thumping of my heart.
I gasped, “Oh my God.” — Someone is present!
The visitors turned as soon as I spoke. A few men leaped to their feet and came running toward me. Everyone noticed the man splayed down on the floor beneath the table, as though it were his hiding place, as someone removed the tablecloth.
The children were terrified, the mothers gasped, and my son clung to me so closely that I could feel him shaking.
He looked at me fearfully and muttered, “He touched me….”
The man was cautiously raised up by two visitors who grasped him by the arms and brought him out from under the table. He was talking incoherently, his eyes were barely open, he was nearly comatose, and he was hardly able to stand. We were immediately assaulted by the stink of alcohol.
He was dragged outside by the men. I soothed my son by holding him close and stroked his head. Some of the guests shook their heads in shock as everyone began talking at once.
The wedding continued, but for me, the experience served as a terrifying warning that one must be vigilant even in the most joyful of situations.
