A hotel housekeeper named Angela noticed an odd scene every evening. 😱
A young girl entered a room after following her “new father,” but she felt unhappy about something in the air.
On a Tuesday night, it all began. A young girl and a man in his thirties arrived.
He appeared to be a peaceful family man, dressed simply and courteously. The discreet girl remained silent. They made themselves at home in room 108 and asked that the curtains not be drawn and that no cleaning be done.
Before the same event happened every night, Angela believed there was nothing to be concerned about. 😱
The same thick hush fell over the room as the man and the girl returned at the same moment. At check-in one evening, Angela inquired, “Are you staying long?” with curiosity and a hint of anxiety. She was doubted by the response, which was a bit too prompt: “Just passing through.” 😱
A mother’s instinct told her that something was amiss, regardless of appearances. As the days went by, her anxiety increased.
On the sixth night, Angela lost her self-control.
She crept behind the hotel, close to room 108’s window. She could see activity inside through a little opening in the nearly closed curtains. She was shaken by what she saw through that slit. 😱
With her heart pounding, Angela shoved herself against the hotel wall. Something evil was what she anticipated. However, the scene taking place in room 112 was oddly homey and somewhat unnerving.
The man sitting cross-legged on the carpet was Daniel Harper, as he had identified himself.
There were open notebooks and textbooks in front of him. Sitting across from him, the girl was writing frantically with a pencil. He was teaching her in solitude; he wasn’t shouting at her or towering over her.
However, her rigid shoulders and slumped posture gave the impression that this was not your typical homework session.
Angela bent somewhat closer. “Faster,” he said, barely audible to her. If you wish to catch up, you must be faster. He spoke in a low, forceful, almost military voice. As she attempted to keep up, the girl’s hand shook.
Angela felt a mixture of relief and fear. Why were they spending night after night in a motel doing homework?
The girl never spoke in public, but why? This was the first time Angela had seen families traveling. Too inflexible. Too evasive.
