When the shoe salesperson saw the word “HELP” on a young woman’s foot sole, she took the following action.
A young couple—a lovely woman and a man in a dapper suit—entered the shoe store. They appeared immaculate at first glance, as though they had just stepped off the cover of a magazine. However, a closer examination showed something odd: the man was gripping the woman’s hand tightly, as though he was scared to let her go, and his countenance darkened each time she attempted to divert her attention, even for a little second.
Without glancing at the salesperson or even saying hello, the man announced angrily, “We need red high-heeled shoes.”
“And, ma’am, what is your size?” the salesperson said courteously.
However, the man responded once more:
Thirty-nine. We’re rushing, so hurry up.
The salesperson offered the woman a seat and brought a pair. She leaned over to assist her in putting on the shoes when she became aware that the client was frantically attempting to get her attention by moving her foot a little. The saleswoman’s heart skipped a beat as she looked down. HELP was inscribed in red letters on the sole of the woman’s foot.
She soon regained her composure after realizing what was happening.
To avoid raising suspicions, she inquired loudly, “Madam, does the size fit you?”
The woman nervously said, “Yes, but I’d like to see some other models.”
Why others? “Take these, and let’s go!” the man cut off abruptly.
They don’t feel extremely at ease. She urged, her voice shaking with anxiety, “I want to try more.”
The saleswoman whispered to the man while he was preoccupied with a phone call:
— Do you require assistance?
“Yes,” the woman said in a low voice.
— Is your spouse there?
Indeed.
— Do I need to contact the police?
He has contacts, the woman said, shaking her head. No one will take me seriously.
The security system abruptly sounded a shrill warning as the couple made their way to the exit. The man was detained when they discovered a pricey piece of jewelry that had “accidentally” fallen into his pocket.
There was a controversy, and the police were called. In actuality, however, the astute saleswoman had placed the jewelry in his pocket in order to detain the guy and give his wife an opportunity.
The woman inhaled deeply for the first time in a long time as the irate man was detained by the store employees and security.
She had a chance, a chance to be saved and to start over. The saleswoman sighed in relief as she rushed out right away.
Naturally, she would later tell the police the truth about what had actually occurred.
