We had begun to get concerned about Max’s conduct, but it wasn’t until we watched the security camera tape that we realized the true cause.
Max has been a loyal and affectionate dog all of his life. He had always been seen by us as a capable guardian of our daughter Lina. He had paid special attention to her since birth. He would run to Lina’s room whenever she cried, sometimes even before us.
However, something changed one day. Max would start barking loudly whenever Lina went to sleep, waking her up each time. He would act aggressively as soon as I walked into the room, and I couldn’t recognize him.
I even began to believe that he was envious of Lina’s attention. I talked about the situation with my husband for a long time. We had to make the tough choice to rehome Max for Lina’s protection.
We were quite devoted to him, so it was a difficult decision, but we had to avoid taking any chances. My husband made the decision to install cameras to keep an eye on Max’s behavior before we were able to find him a new family.
While watching the video that same evening, he contacted me out of the blue and said, “Look at this… quickly!” We were stunned by what we found.
After watching the video, we finally realized what had been happening.
Max would start barking ferociously whenever Lina went to sleep, but it wasn’t out of jealously.
He was actually responding to someone breaking into our yard.
A man was seen on camera skulking around our home and attempting to open doors and windows.
Max had sensed danger and had acted accordingly.
He used his barking to warn Lina of the danger and to defend her.
We called the police the following day.
They verified that there had been other break-ins in the area and that someone was actively looking for the thief.
Max had transformed from an angry dog to a brave warrior who bravely guarded our family.
