A dog jumped onto the road and was almost hit by my car: I slammed on the brakes, and the dog looked at me, barking loudly, but then I noticed something in the grass…

When a dog leaped onto the road, I nearly hit it with my car. I applied the brakes hard, and the dog gave me a loud bark, but then I saw something in the grass.

I was running my daily errands and traveling on the road as normal.

My favorite music was playing on the radio, and the road was nearly deserted save for the occasional car. I felt at ease and barely gave the road any thought.

But all of a sudden, an unforeseen event occurred.

Suddenly, a dog leaped onto the road directly in front of me. The tires screeched as I slammed on the brakes, and the car came to a stop inches from him. He nearly got struck.

Surprisingly, though, the dog did not recoil. His eyes were shining as he stepped directly in front of the hood and gazed at me. The dog let forth a loud bark.

I asked myself, “Is he crazy?” and made the decision to remain in the car for the time being. However, something wasn’t right. There was no insanity in his eyes, only haste and desperation, as though he were pleading with me for something.

He was a neat, well-groomed dog, black and white, and obviously not a stray, I noticed. He therefore had owners.

Why, then, was he barking so loudly?

Then I noticed something at the side of the road. Something was in the grass. I initially believed it to be something, but upon closer inspection, I was chilled: on the grass lay At that point, I realized why the dog was acting strangely.

It was a kid. About six months old, clumsily sprawled in the grass, silently extending tiny arms in front of them.

My mind instantly created the image.

From a house close, the toddler had crawled out. The dog saw him and chased after him. When the small animal approached the road too closely, the dog leaped onto it, putting himself in danger to halt the automobiles.

He was frantically calling for assistance, not just barking aimlessly.

I hurriedly exited the vehicle and snatched up the infant. He was simply a little scared, but not hurt. The dog instantly stopped barking and started crying softly.

I walked over to the home and knocked. The mother of the child emerged a few seconds later. She became pale as she saw her infant in my arms, and then she started crying in amazement and thankfulness.

I pointed to the dog and explained what had happened. He sat next to us, keeping a close eye on the child and seemingly making sure everything was alright.

The woman rushed over to the dog, gave him a neck hug, and muttered:

– You kept him alive.

I realized then that he was more than just a devoted dog. He was a real angel of protection.
