With a single word, the son destroyed the wedding, and the bride’s beaming face dimmed! A menacing stillness descended upon the hall as the groom froze, gazing at her face. 😲
…An eight-year-old kid sat in the front row of the chapel, his fingers shaking as he gripped a velvet cushion, yet he was not wearing rings. He had another object in his hand.
He hadn’t said a thing since he arrived.
“Isn’t today an exciting day?” One of the guests muttered. He didn’t answer. The youngster hardly gave a nod, keeping his gaze fixed on his father, who stood at the altar, looking content, tight, and blind.
The wedding song started to play behind closed doors. The guests got up. They raised their phones. The smiles spread.
The youngster, however, stayed seated.
The sound of her heels reached his ears. Every stride reverberated in his chest like an unsettling echo. He felt like screaming. However, he was unable to. Not quite yet. Until he was certain. Not until his gaze met hers.
He had seen a completely different lady in those eyes. The one that shows up while no one is looking.
She walked in wearing a white dress, her hair styled perfectly, and her grin instantly took over the room.
Everyone—aside from him.
Like a drum, the boy’s heart pounded.
“She is really beautiful, isn’t she?” — the man next to him whispered. The boy did not breathe.
He wants to share everything. to make eyes open. to caution. Who would believe him, though? His dad? He recalled that he had previously attempted to
“Your mother-in-law? Little one, she loves you. You’re merely envious.
He had seen something that no one else had. The nightly chatter behind the door had gone unheard. The blood freezes with those words.
Then — the time had come. “If anyone knows a reason why these two should not be married — let them speak now,” the priest said in a firm voice.
The boy got to his feet. He didn’t cry. He only said one clear, trembling syllable. At that very moment, the bride’s smile started to wane. The guy stared at his chosen wife in shock and froze. And the guests stared at one another in confusion as a wave of mute astonishment swept across the hall.
Ethan inhaled deeply. Even though his heart was racing, he knew that he could not keep quiet any longer.
“Cease the wedding!” – For a young boy, his voice sounded rather booming.
The visitors let out a gasp. The priest stopped. His father, the groom, glanced around, his eyes bewildered.
“Ethan… What are you doing?
The boy moved ahead. Despite his trembling, he had a determined look in his eyes.
She doesn’t love you, Dad. She’s not who she says she is. She is a liar. That’s what I heard her say.
“Enough!” — the father said harshly again. “This is excessive. Simply put, you’re envious. Due to your mom? I know it’s difficult for you, but
“No! You’re not getting it! — Ethan held up his phone. “Just pay attention. This was recorded yesterday. I was standing behind the door, but she assumed nobody was there.
He hit “play.”
Once more, a tight, even menacing silence descended upon the hall.
The bride’s cheery, lighthearted, yet calculating voice emerged from the phone’s speaker:
Yes, sweetheart, we succeeded. I’m getting married to him tomorrow. He genuinely thought this act was real. A little more time, and I’ll receive half of his wealth following the divorce. Imagine his expression when he discovers that everything was false.
The visitors let out a gasp. The bridegroom turned pale.
The bride appeared terrified and stood still. She opened her mouth to speak, but the words stuck in her throat.
She whispered, “This isn’t what you think,” but it was too late.
Ethan’s father turned his gaze from his son to the prospective bride. Pain and realization slowly filled his gaze. Then — in rage.
He took a step away from the altar. Silently, the priest closed the Bible after placing his hand on it.
The wedding would not take place.
It concluded with a nasty aftertaste, akin to a cup of poisoned coffee, rather than with embraces or cheers. They escorted the bride out. The guests whispered in disbelief as they left.
Ethan moved to the side. There was no sense of victory for him. Just the truth. He had to expose the reality, shattering the illusions and hopes of the family.
His dad remained silent. However, he put a real, shaky, and hefty hand on his shoulder as he went by.
Love blindness can happen. The little voice that dares to utter what no one wants to hear is the voice of truth.
What do you think? Did Ethan make the correct decision by coming clean?
Or ought he to have told his father everything first, in secret, without embarrassment?
