I installed a hidden camera to keep an eye on my mother-in-law, but when I saw what she was doing, I was horrified

I set up a covert camera to monitor my mother-in-law, but I was appalled when I discovered what she was doing.

I never thought I would be able to live in such anxiety all the time. Before getting married, I imagined a mother-in-law would be like the characters in movies: fair but severe, someone who would eventually accept you if you tried. Additionally, I did try. Really. However, it appears that my mother-in-law made the decision that “you don’t belong here” early on.

She didn’t shout. She didn’t initiate altercations. She simply pushed me out of the picture, slowly.

It was little stuff at start. When I was not looking, she would “accidentally” oversalt the soup when I was preparing dinner. She would bleach my colored items while I was doing the laundry. She asserted that she was unaware.

Then I noticed that my makeup was fading. All of a sudden, my cream containers were empty and my favorite lipstick was shattered. She simply gave me a startled expression when I asked:

Perhaps you forgot that you had used it all.

The bedroom smelled like burnt cotton when I woke up one night. I hurried to the kitchen, where my shoes were inside and the oven was on. I was going to wear the same ones to a job interview. She denied everything, of course:

One of the neighbors must have been pulling a practical joke.

It wasn’t hilarious, but I nearly laughed.

The dress was the last straw. I was going to wear that to my friend’s wedding. For a week, it had been hanging in the closet. Every day I checked it. However, I discovered it sliced to bits two hours prior to departing.

As she walked by the room, my mother-in-law mutely remarked:

It isn’t intended for you if it isn’t yours.

The kitchen was where I aimed the camera. I foolishly believed that the worst she could do would be to spit in my meal or to sprinkle salt on my plants. But the reality was much more frightening.

She approached my mug on the second day when I was watching the video. She produced a tiny white packet. I added what appeared to be sugar to my tea. It wasn’t sugar, though. She then thoroughly mixed it with a spoon.

There was a cold, dead smile on her face. She said to herself in a whisper:

This is superior. You’re not supposed to be here.

I didn’t get any sleep that evening. I took the USB stick to the police the following morning.

I gathered my belongings and departed that evening. I didn’t clarify anything over the phone because my spouse was away on business at the time. Prioritize safety. Details will be provided later.

I received the findings a week later. It came out that the powder she was adding to my tea was a veterinary sedative that is used to put animals to sleep. weakness, lightheadedness, and drowsiness at little doses. Larger doses may cause unconsciousness and even respiratory collapse.

On a few occasions, I recalled feeling oddly weak, like if time were running out. I assumed it was simply fatigue.

She is currently being investigated. My spouse is still in disbelief. He finds it unbelievable that his mother could have done such a thing.
