The new parents chose to install a camera after noticing that their dog sat beside the crib every night without moving.
The young couple’s golden retriever, Lora, stepped in as nanny as soon as they welcomed their infant girl. Children frequently develop devoted relationships with dogs, but Lora’s actions quickly became odd.
Then a very strange thing started. Every night for a week, Lora would go to the crib, sit next to it, and remain motionless. She didn’t go to sleep, lie down, or even go have a sip of water. She simply sat there, observing the baby all the time and whimpering gently every now and again.
The mother first grinned and said, “She’s probably just protecting her.”
However, the dog started acting strangely every day. While the parents slept in their room, she spent the entire night sitting by the crib. She pretended that nothing had happened in the morning, playing, eating, and sleeping.
The young mother became frightened. “Why is she acting in this way? Our daughter is the source of my extreme concern. Perhaps we ought to take her to the veterinarian.
The couple put in a night-vision camera pointed at the crib to help them feel less anxious. They saw the video in the morning and were astounded. There had been danger to their daughter.
Around 3:12 AM, Lora abruptly got to her feet, snarled, and began barking furiously in the direction of the window. It was evident on the video: the window sash slowly and very slightly opened. Then a hand attempted to push through the screen, and it was someone’s hand.
The dog barked as she sprang into action, snatched the curtain between her teeth, and leaped onto the windowsill. The hand vanished. After a second, there was silence.
Reaching for the phone, the mother dialed the cops.
Subsequently, it was discovered that a thief had been breaking into houses through ground-floor windows for several weeks. In order to leave the parents vulnerable and unprepared, he deliberately targeted families with infants.
Two days later, fragments of glove fabric and blood droplets discovered by the window provided evidence that led to his capture.He had been bitten by Lora.
The couple never again locked Lora in the kitchen at night after that. She now slept in the nursery, snuggled up next to the crib in solitude. Never again did she whimper.
She had fulfilled her role. She had merely provided protection.
