Is my grandmother’s method of treating knee pain better than a cream?
Everybody remembers a granny from a bygone era and her small antics. No prescription, no drugstore. Just simplicity and nature… and frequently, an efficacy that silences us.
A warm poultice made from cabbage leaves was my grandmother’s go-to remedy for knee pain.
No costly ointments or anti-inflammatory medications. A few warm leaves were put to the joint, left there for half an hour, and then covered with a fresh towel.
And what do you know? I gave it a shot.
Unexpected, yet quite powerful. She used to say that “cabbage draws out the pain.” And now that I’m aware of this overlooked vegetable’s anti-inflammatory qualities, I believe she might have been completely correct.
Even though her grandmother’s solution is straightforward, it’s one of those age-old lessons we forget all too often.
Perhaps the answer is in our kitchen during a time when we’re racing to find the magic cure in pills or tubes.
How about you? Have these ancient medicines been passed down to you?
Have you ever tried homemade rosemary balm, apple cider vinegar, or cabbage leaves?
