Emilie is adopted by Lucas and Elodie.
Emilie was a charming little girl who had been welcomed by Lucas and Elodie. She won her adoptive parents over with her bright grin at the age of four. Emilie had rushed into Lucas’s arms from the moment they first met, perhaps in search of her biological father.
Prolonged and draining processes
Lucas found it to be a really touching moment and interpreted it as a sign that she had picked them. Following several months of paperwork, home inspections, and waiting…
“Are you truly prepared?”
“Are you really ready?” was the question the social worker had posed to them. With unwavering confidence, Elodie replied, “She’s our daughter.” For the first three of them, it was great. The family felt whole again after playing games and laughing.
“Daddy, I want to stay here.”
But after a difficult day, Lucas arrived home one evening fatigued. Emilie cried, rushed into his arms, and pleaded, “I want to stay here, daddy,” as he hurried to her. He was broken by those remarks. What was she trying to say? Elodie then showed there, her expression icy. “We have to return her,” she said sternly.
Elodie was at her breaking point.
She had reached her breaking point. Emilie was destroying items, sullying clothing, and even applying paint on Elodie’s bridal gown. Elodie perceived the infant as a danger to her equilibrium and was unable to recognize her innocence.
Lucas and Elodie had been dreaming of starting a family for years. However, they decided to adopt after experiencing multiple miscarriages and health issues.
“It’s either her or me.”
Elodie continued, “She’s manipulative.” These statements left Lucas speechless. He couldn’t take the idea of losing Emilie because he had already been really close to her. “She or I,” Elodie cautioned.
Lucas decided on his daughter.
Lucas ultimately decided that he would remain with his daughter. He knew his wife was mistaken, yet he still loved her. Elodie shut the door behind her and walked out. The days that followed were difficult. Emilie was depressed since she couldn’t comprehend her mother’s abrupt absence. Lucas tried his best to console her by showing her love and concern.
The return of Elodie
Elodie returned a few weeks later, her heart heavy with regret. She acknowledged that she had panicked and sought to make amends. The grief was still raw even while Lucas listened. “Elodie, you didn’t simply abandon me. “You also left her,” he said.
In the direction of peace?
It had been a year. When someone raised their voice, as Elodie frequently did, Emilie still winced. Every time she was afraid, she held on to Lucas’s hand.
“You won’t ever abandon me, will you?”
However, she started laughing a lot more and went to sleep without screaming. She was no longer offended when Lucas was referred to as “daddy.” “You’ll never leave me, right?” she whispered as he tucked her into bed that night. “Never,” Lucas muttered back, giving her a strong hug.
