The shepherd dog unexpectedly blocked the bride’s way during the wedding ceremony. At first, everyone assumed it was an accident, but then something unexpected happened.
Rex has been Anna’s faithful friend and companion for over a decade. She initially believed the dog to be merely anxious, but she soon discovered it was something more.
Anna paused. Rex put his body up against her legs. He just looked into her eyes without growling or barking.
She hoped that Rex would get up and said, “Come on, sweetheart.” The dog did not, however, move. The guests’ murmurs became more audible. Anna’s dad was on the verge of grabbing the leash.
Abruptly — a low, nearly imperceptible rumble. It was odd. Rex had never acted in such a manner.
Anna sat next him, put her hands to his face, and gazed into his eyes, asking, “What’s wrong, my dear?”
It was only then that she became aware of his shaking paws and his heavy breathing. It was as though someone was squeezing her heart. Rex was the only one she saw.
In an attempt to comprehend what was going on, the guests muttered. However, Anna could only see Rex’s soft, yearning gaze and hear her own heartbeat.
Once more, she whispered, “Rex.”
And just then, something occurred that rocked everyone in the room.
Anna paused. The visitors looked at each other in confusion. The groom moved in as well. She then stated strongly that we were go to the veterinary clinic. Now.
The wedding had to be immediately called off. Together with the groom and their parents, they loaded Rex into the car and drove to the hospital, leaving behind the white dress, the music, and the flowers.
Rex had only a few days, possibly weeks, to live, according to the physicians’ diagnosis of heart failure. Anna was unable to contain her tears.
Knowing that my Rex is going, I am unable to enjoy the wedding. She informed the groom, “He’s my family.” Please, let’s put everything on hold. He must be with me.
Without hesitation, the groom consented and gave her a firm hug.
He is, of course, more significant. Later, we’ll do it. Being with the people we love is the most essential thing.
A few hours later, all of a sudden, the groom’s parents and Anna’s parents and the clergyman entered the veterinarian clinic. They brought flowers and rings.
— We reasoned, — Anna’s father remarked, — why not hold the wedding here since it must be witnessed by everyone you care about? Right now, let Rex be with you.
So the most authentic and sincere ceremony happened directly in the clinic. Between them was Rex, sleeping soundly while sensing the love that was all about him. Anna was wearing a plain white robe, and the groom was wearing a shirt with the sleeves rolled up.
