Officially, Princess Beatrice has two children with her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. They welcomed their second kid on January 22, 2024.
Despite being born early and weighing only 4 pounds and 5 ounces, Buckingham Palace reports that she and her mother are “healthy and doing well.”
“What a lovely name.”
It’s obvious that the royal baby’s debut has delighted her family as well as royal enthusiasts everywhere. On January 29th, the fans were informed by the joyful parents, and social media was inundated with praise and good wishes.
Her due date was slated for early spring, so the birth was a few weeks early, but Princess Beatrice and Edoardo are incredibly happy with their new baby.
Last week, we welcomed Baby Athena into the world. Edoardo posted on Instagram, “She is small and flawless,” demonstrating his and Beatrice’s intense affection for their baby.
“What a lovely name. One reader said, “Congratulations!,” while another remarked, “I adore Athena’s name.” I’m so glad they’re all well!
It’s not just its elegance that has made Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi a household name. It has a more profound historical importance that has everyone discussing.
Athena is the goddess of war, knowledge, and common sense in Greek mythology. Beyond its legendary origins, however, the name also has a personal association with the lineage of the British royal family. Not only is Athena a lovely name, but it also links her to the Greek heritage of the House of Windsor. She was born to Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
Princess Diana’s relationship
The royal twist is that Prince Philip, Beatrice’s grandpa, was born into the Greek royal family in Corfu in 1921. He was the son of Princess Alice of Battenberg and Prince Andrew of Denmark and Greece. Therefore, it is thought that giving their daughter the name Athena is a nod to their Greek heritage.
Not only that, but the birth of baby Athena has elevated her in the royal line of succession. She has displaced her aunt, Princess Eugenie, to the 12th position in the line for the throne, making her the 11th in line.
Furthermore, Athena has previously graced royal circles. In 2024, Lady Kitty Spencer, the niece of the late Princess Diana, continued the family name by naming her daughter Athena.
Public response
The public’s response has been overwhelmingly favorable, with admirers expressing their love for Athena and her parents on social media. “Oh, welcome to the world, beautiful tiny tot,” wrote one fan in a comment. XXX Congratulations to all of you!” Another exclaimed, “Awwww! I’m really glad for them! She is stunning!
Beatrice’s maternal nature was praised by even those close to the family. She is very interested in the lives of both children and very nurturing. Beatrice’s close friend Gabriella Peacock remarked, “It’s great to see my best friend progressing into this next phase of her life.”
Three kids
After the birth of their daughter Sienna in 2021, this is Beatrice and Edoardo’s second child together. However, Athena also has a huge brother.
According to Edoardo, Wolfie, his son from a previous relationship, is already totally “besotted” with his younger sister.
Since 2016, Edoardo has been Wolfie’s loving father, and Princess Beatrice, the ninth in line for the throne, has been an amazing stepmother. The couple’s parenting abilities have received positive reviews from friends and sources close to them. A close acquaintance remarked, “Bea came naturally to motherhood because she has such a good heart and is such a kind person.” “She is an amazing mother.”

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo are obviously creating a solid, devoted family, and Athena is the ideal complement to their universe. Edoardo described their hearts as “overflowing with love,” and they are savoring each moment spent with their beloved daughter.
The name Athena is genuinely rich in beauty, history, and enduring royal meaning. Even though she is only a month old, it is obvious that this little one is already making waves! We are eager to watch what this beloved princess will do in the future.
