Couple with Down syndrome decide to have children, face criticism

Lisa, the daughter of Patti White, who has Down syndrome, declared she was expecting more than 20 years ago. Lisa had been working full-time, living on her own, and maintaining a positive relationship with a man who also has Down syndrome. Lisa’s pregnancy shocked her family, despite the stereotype that males with Down syndrome are sterile.

Her family stood behind her even if her choice was condemned, particularly for being careless. Lisa had a normal pregnancy, which included attending childbirth classes and experiencing morning sickness. Nic, her son, has Down syndrome and was delivered early. Nic’s mother, Patti, assisted Lisa in raising Nic when his father tragically died when Nic was five years old.

Nic, who is now 24 years old, is successful and honors the people who brought him up. He says his mother is the person who loves and supports him the most. Patti celebrated Lisa and Nic’s triumph over adversity by sharing their journey on Facebook in 2016. The narrative of Patti, Lisa, and Nic inspires others and emphasizes the worth of people with Down syndrome.
