Man dies months after discovering that this warning sign was actually cancer

Just six months after receiving the diagnosis, Enny Mosley of Southampton lost her brother Ade to oesophageal cancer in October 2018. Years later, she saw the same warning sign at her husband, Dave, that her brother had before the diagnosis. That ultimately resulted in Dave’s life being saved.

Specifically, Ade, who was 53 when he passed away, had been suffering with heartburn for a long time. However, he chose to utilize over-the-counter antacids to relieve the symptoms instead of seeking medical attention.

He spent some time working as an electrician abroad and didn’t even have a UK general practitioner when he returned to England.

Doctors found that Ade had oesophageal cancer, which affects the food pipe, after testing him for heartburn. Unfortunately, he died six months later even though he received treatment immediately.

“It was heartbreaking to see him suffer,” Jenny stated in reference to her brother.

Even though the treatment had a significant negative impact, he showed incredible bravery. We regret not knowing more sooner.

“Ade was the life of the gathering every time.

It was difficult to think that something so severe could be happening beneath the surface because he was so enthusiastic and full of energy.

Jenny encouraged her husband to seek treatment for his heartburn and get tested for the same kind of cancer that Ade had been diagnosed with after her brother passed away.

Dave signed up with Heartburn Cancer UK and Cyted for an innovative capsule sponge test prototype.

In order to gather oesophageal cells for subsequent analysis, a consumed capsule dissolves in the stomach, releasing a sponge.

According to the test results, Dave had Barrett’s oesophagus, which, if left untreated, can develop into oesophageal cancer.

Doctors are keeping an eye on Dave’s condition since he began receiving treatment.

Knowing that Dave is under close observation is such a comfort. Together, we’ve changed our lifestyles, and we now see how critical it is to monitor his health. Ade would be thrilled to hear that he was able to assist Dave. Jenny remarked, “He would have been pleased that at least something good came from all of his suffering.” She also mentioned that Dave had been suffering from heartburn for more than eight years, which was later determined to be a warning indication.

The Chief Operating Officer of Heartburn Cancer UK, Fiona Labrooy, discussed the need of paying attention to heartburn. In our daily work, we all too frequently hear about the lost possibilities when people die or become seriously ill as a result of ignoring chronic heartburn or self-medicating for an extended period of time. She added, “And it’s always devastating.”
