After Selena Gomez uploaded a video to her Instagram stories, she received a lot of negative feedback. She uploaded the video in response to the most recent immigration laws that the new administration had put into effect in the US.
“All of my people, including the children, are being attacked. I don’t get it. In the video, the 32-year-old singer sobbed as she stated, “I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t.”
“I’m not sure what to do. “I swear, I’ll try everything,” she said. Numerous users are criticizing Gomez of personalizing the problem. Someone commented, “She’s so annoying.”
“Selena never fails to make it about how she feels. Another individual remarked, “This is about actual lives being impacted, not about showy tears. Another commenter said, “Perhaps Selena should use her platform to donate, share resources, or raise awareness in a more constructive way instead of crying on camera.”
Others, however, felt that the criticism was unjust. “Yall just hate it cuz it’s Selena girlie just cares,” someone wrote. “Oh, so expressing concern for your folks is suddenly referred to as “making things about myself,” said another, echoing similar thoughts.
However, it seems that the outcry was so strong that Gomez quickly removed her video and commented, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people,” on a basic black background. Then she also removed that story. On her social media, Gomez has previously shared an emotional video.
The actress has previously discussed immigration; in a 2019 Netflix documentary series titled Living Undocumented, she even shared the poignant tale of her family’s journey.
The actress has previously worked with a number of charities, such as Unicef. In addition, she established the Rare Impact Fund. The non-profit is committed to supporting research for projects pertaining to mental health.
