Social media is a powerful force in today’s world, and 16-year-old Korben White’s story is the ideal illustration of this. A single tweet from his mother featuring this young man wearing a crimson gown to his prom garnered millions of views.
Korben wanted to convey the idea that “you can be who you want to be” by posing in a blazing red skirt and a tuxedo shirt with sequins that matched his crimson hair. This isn’t exactly what one would expect from a boy.
Nina Green, his mother, told the BBC about her son’s inspiration. “He wanted to express his feminine side while staying true to himself—wearing a dress at the bottom and a tuxedo on top, heavily inspired by [American actor] Billy Porter.” “He wanted to be Korben…but in a dress,” she added.

Nina only wanted to show her family and friends that her son was “living his best life,” and she had no idea the picture would become widely popular.
She stated, “Everyone cheered as soon as he got out of the car, and I was crying, along with some of the teachers, because he was being who he wanted to be.”
“His year group has been amazing, and everyone has been very supportive.”
“You will only get the finest performance from your child if you allow them to be themselves.
“The sense of acceptance is unmatched, even though there are still individuals in the world who don’t get it.
“I’m so glad for him.”
It wasn’t until the next day, while she and Korben were traveling to Pride in London, that she discovered her post had reached hundreds of people.

Ru Paul’s Drag Race star Michelle Visage was among many who expressed interest in Korben’s wardrobe choices, remarking that the teenager was a “star.”
Korben described it as “very surreal” that Visage was drawn to his mother’s tweet.
“She is an amazing celebrity and an icon in my opinion, and I greatly admire her,” he remarked.
Other parents were inspired to share their own gender-bending child tales after Nina’s picture of her son went viral and inspired love and acceptance.
My kid would really like to do something similar during prom, but I’m worried that he won’t have the support of all the other students! It’s very unfortunate that homophobia persists today. “Congratulations to you, your son, and his school!” someone commented.
“Your boy looked fantastic, and I am very pleased for him!My son is trans, and I had to remove him from school for his mental health after three years of transphobic bullying throughout January B4 GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education, which is provided in some parts of the UK). Another said, “He was denied the opportunity to attend prom, where he always wore a tux.”
Absolutely gorgeous! A third person commented, “My daughter wore a suit to hers!” on his daughter’s prom attire.
Naturally, some also criticized Nina’s parenting, calling her a bad mother for letting her son wear a dress.

One pessimist said, “There is very little hope for civilization,” while another added, “Move, Woke & a failure as a parent in encouraging this sort of thing.” A twelve-year-old boy ought to be studying how to be a man and playing football. Unfortunately, adults today damage their children’s lives by sending out virtue signals, like the one you’re doing with this tweet. Disgrace.
Nina revealed that parents from all over the nation have been calling her to seek for tips on how to treat their children as well as she has treated her kid.
“I sincerely hope it will make people more tolerant, give proud parents the confidence to celebrate their kids and let them know they are not alone, and let young people know there is a network there if they need it.” “You have to accept your children for who they are,” she added.
