18-year-old tragically dies weeks after collapsing at high school graduation

The sudden death of an 18-year-old high school student who passed out during her graduation ceremony has left a town in mourning.

Tragically, 18-year-old Sienna Stewart, who had a transplant eleven years prior, was diagnosed with heart failure in April. Since she was four years old, Sienna has had severe cardiomyopathy, and early this year, she started “getting sick.”

For ten years, the young woman apparently led a “relatively normal life” thanks to the aforementioned transplant, but after that, she began “getting weak and slowing down.”

At her graduation on Thursday, May 23, 2024, Mom Saevon Chum disclosed that her daughter had periods of collapsing, and she also had one of such episodes.

The principal of Hiram High School is heard yelling, “Please give us a moment, we have a student. Just give us a moment,” in a video that the school has posted.

Her daughter was being treated by paramedics when Saevon arrived. The mother recalled, “The ambulance was there when I got there.” She had passed out. She had experienced another incident. However, this was the first time she passed out.

After regaining consciousness a little while later, Sienna made the decision to go to her ceremony rather than go to the hospital.

“All she said to me was, ‘I just want to walk, I want to graduate.'” She previously missed her prom because she was in the hospital before to that, so that’s all she wanted,” Saevon remarked.

Unfortunately, just a few weeks after obtaining her diploma, on Wednesday, June 12, Sienna passed away.

As a mother, you are quite proud of her for having persevered through a difficult situation. You must feel proud. I was proud all the way through,” Saevon remarked.

In the fall, Sienna was scheduled to study ultrasound technology in college, according to her obituary.
