In order to support their nation and the men they serve with, military dogs are essential. These dogs always look out for one another and frequently develop strong, enduring relationships with their handlers.
While serving in Afghanistan, a US soldier formed a unique bond with a dog named Taylor. A team went above and above to bring them back together when Taylor’s military duty ended.
Taylor, a yellow lab, was instrumental in defending Afghanistan during his two missions with the US Army. According to NBC News, her influence was so great that the Taliban even put a price on her head.
Taylor was adored by her American companions, who referred to her as “Tay-Tay,” despite the fact that the enemy feared her. During warfare, she developed a particularly close relationship with Sgt. Tom Hansen, and the two saved each other’s lives—Hansen shielded her from firefights while Taylor found bombs placed beneath his boots.
Taylor and Sgt. Tom Hansen had a close relationship, yet they spent two years apart. However, a touching reunion was made possible by Taylor’s military stint coming to an end.
Former military dogs are usually put up for adoption after their service, with the soldiers who served with them receiving preference. However, it can be challenging to arrange for a dog to be sent across the globe to meet up with its handler. Thankfully, United flight attendant Mollie Oliver, who made it her goal to bring warriors and their dogs back together, came to their aid. To bring these unique ties back together, Mollie personally paid for the trips.
Mollie told NBC News, “I love the dogs and I love my military, which has taken care of my freedom my entire life, so it’s a win-win to combine the two.”
Sgt. Hansen excitedly awaited Taylor’s arrival at Boise Airport, and Mollie offered to drive her to Ohio so she could see him again. “I feel like a piece of myself has been missing, and having her back will complete me once more,” Hansen said.
The touching reunion took place after Taylor’s safe arrival in the United States. Taylor rushed to Hansen right away, and the scene was so poignant that not a tear was shed.
