Six years have passed since Michael Strahan joined “Good Morning America” from “Live With Kelly and Michael.” The departure was a little ugly; in fact, Strahan ended up leaving three months sooner than anticipated, and co-host Kelly Ripa was so taken aback by his decision that she took a week off from the show after it.
She gave a sketchy explanation for her departure when she returned. When Ripa returned to the show, she told her audience, “I needed a couple of days to gather my thoughts; after 26 years with this company, I earned the right.” “(This) sparked a much larger discussion about respect, communication, and consideration in the workplace. There has been an apology.
Even though Strahan apologized for leaving, his relationship with Ripa has changed since they were the show’s hosts.
It was only lately that Strahan revealed a lot about his connection with Ripa—or rather, his lack thereof—and how the show ended years ago.
In his interview with Time, Strahan claimed that once Ripa left, their friendship never fully healed. Actually, there isn’t much communication between the two nowadays.
In his interview, he stated, “I discovered that you cannot persuade others to like you because of everything that transpired with that.” “It’s been a while since I spoke to her.”
The two still appear on their respective morning shows today: Strahan on Good Morning America and Ripa on “Live with Kelly and Ryan” (due to Ryan Seacrest joining the show as co-host in 2017). In the early afternoon, he and Sara Haines host the morning show’s third hour.
While they were still presenting, Strahan alluded to some problems Ripa was having behind the stage that were out of his control in a previous interview with Deadline.
I didn’t change from who I was on Day 1. Changing my mindset for someone else’s is something I will never do. Kelly and Michael Gelman, the executive producer, taught me a lot. It was time to leave when the time came. Some of the behind-the-scenes activities simply came to light.
