For most individuals, bathing or taking a shower is a culturally universal practice. Although opinions on how frequently a person should take a shower vary, the notion that it should be done on a regular basis is universal.

Amou Haji, however, had an alternative. He made the decision to go 67 years without taking a shower. The late Persian man also said that he had good grounds to do so.

Amou Haji was an Iranian hermit who went more than 60 years without taking a bath. He was rumored to have inhaled animal feces from a pipe and to have feasted on roadkill.

He was said to have been born in 1928 and came from the Iranian hamlet of Dez Gah. People called him “Amou Haji,” which translates to “old man,” even though his true identity was unknown.

According to a rumor, he had a heartbreak in his life, which is why he turned into a recluse. People did not mind his presence, according to reports, and he lived in a cinderblock house on the edge of the hamlet.

He only took care of his “hygiene” by using fire to trim the hair on his head and beard when he thought it was getting too long. He had uniformly grey skin and hair.

He lived to reach a staggering 94 years old, and despite his dubious personal cleanliness, he appeared to be in generally good condition over the years.

Although there were rumors that the old timer was afraid of water, this was untrue when it came to drinking it. He reportedly drank up to five liters of water every day from a filthy tin can.

Regarding his diet, he favored foraging for his own sustenance. He would frequently decide to go obtain his own meals even while others provided him fresh food. He even declared that he liked roadkill, with porcupines being his favorite. Regardless of how bad or aged the meat appeared, he was said to consume the roadkill he discovered entirely raw.

He smoked animal feces in his pipe as well. He was also said to enjoy smoking cigarettes, and he was once seen puffing on many at once.

He was said to be healthy despite having a troubling diet and poor personal cleanliness. Indeed, a few months after the villagers persuaded him to take a bath, he passed away at the age of 94.

The elderly guy had been tested by Dr. Gholamreza Molavi of Tehran University of Medical Sciences School of Public Health before to his death. They discovered that, in spite of his lifestyle, he was in good health.
