When Sidney Kimble West and her father Sam West entered the stage at the 2020 National SHAG Dancing Championships, it was more than just a dream come true for them.
Sam, a little-known dancing superstar, performed a captivating rendition of Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me” with his daughter. Their somber faces gave way to smiles as soon as the music started, and they started to dance around the floor in unison.
This was a celebration of their family’s passion for the arts, not just a dance. At the age of nine, Sam began dancing after being inspired by his mother. During his scholastic years, he and his partner Terri Alberty won two junior national titles.
Their performance was not merely an exhibition of skill. It served as a potent reminder that dancing unites individuals, just like family does. Dancing with my dad was a dream come true, Sidney remarked.
