Fox News commentator Jeanine Pirro questioned Robert De Niro’s contributions to New York City, questioning whether he had constructed any skyscrapers or altered the city’s skyline, in response to the actor’s anti-Trump remarks.
Manhattan native De Niro was raised there and along with Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff, she co-founded the Tribeca Festival in 2002 to help the neighborhood recover from the September 11 tragedy. He serves on the board of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum as well.”My question for Robert De Niro, what have you done for New York City?” Fox News personality Jeanine Pirro asked the audience. Is there a structure that bears your name? Have you constructed skyscrapers? Has your concept altered the skyline of New York City?
“I love this city,” De Niro said, criticizing Trump, outside of a lower Manhattan court prior to the closing arguments in his hush money trial. I have no desire to ruin it. Donald Trump aspires to ruin the nation and the city, and in time, he might even destroy the entire world. He want complete anarchy.
YORK AND DE NIRO
In a 2015 interview, De Niro went into further detail about his ties to New York, saying, “I am a New Yorker.” New York offers a plethora of items that are unavailable elsewhere. Individuals from all across the nation and the world come here to discover who they are.
It’s a place where you can discover your identity, remain anonymous, or become a member of a community,” he continued. New York has seasons, which is why I like it. You drive all the time, and L.A. is too dispersed. It’s simply not the same situation. I’m from New York. I’d prefer to remain here.
De Niro’s actions and words demonstrate his strong ties to New York City and his initiatives to help and rebuild it.
