With the conclusion of his “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” tour in Stockholm, Sweden, Sir Elton John declared his retirement from performing live. But a lot of people have been wondering if he would actually be able to avoid touring. It’s official now—nearly a year later—that Sir Elton will not be going on tour.
John revealed in a recent interview that he is no longer willing to consider going on tour. He made this choice mostly to put his family first. With David Furnish as his spouse, Sir Elton is a devoted father to their two sons, Elijah, age 11, and Zachary, age 13.
“You know, our sons are starting to enter their teenage years,” David Furnish clarified. We wish not to overlook anything. We would like to attend that. He made it clear that they wanted to be there for their kids at every turn, supporting and guiding them through this important time in their life.
Furnish also brought up the idea that after sixty years of touring, the 77-year-old music icon should finally take a well-earned vacation. “It’s nice to have that time to spend at home with family,” he said, adding that he had been doing it for sixty years.
Elton John said that he was happy with how his farewell tour concluded. He spoke of the last show in Stockholm as an exhilarating and memorable occasion. He stated, “I got in the car after Glastonbury and said, ‘Yes! Yes!’ It was the last show in Stockholm on the farewell tour.” We ended on the utmost high, exactly how I had hoped, and there was no turning back after that.
John took a time during his final concert to thank his devoted followers. He thanked them for coming to his events and recognized their support throughout his career. “Fifty-two years of pure joy, playing music,” he uttered. How fortunate am I to be a musician?
But if it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be sitting here chatting to you. You purchased the albums, cassettes, CDs, singles, and albums. More significantly, though, you purchased the performance tickets. You are aware of my passion for performing live. I’ve been playing for you guys my entire life. You have been nothing short of amazing. I’m grateful.
Sir Elton John has made it clear that he would never go on tour again, although he did hint at the prospect of doing a single live show at some point in the future. Even though his tours may not have the same thrill, fans may still treasure the amazing experiences and anticipate any unique performances he may make.
